The pipe organ is often referred to as the “king of instruments”. A pipe organ can produce many of the tonal aspects of the instruments in an orchestra. These pipes were recovered from the previous organ built in 1972 (Opus 3162) and installed in the First Congregational Church-Chatham by the Casavant Organ Company, Saint Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada; the same company that installed our new organ.

Both the trumpet and flute pipes were recovered from their individual sections. The trumpet pipes contain a reed  which reproduces the sound of a trumpet and the flute pipes are shaped in such a way they make the sound of a flute. Each pipe is an individual note in a range of octaves. The very small flute pipes are called mixtures and it takes three pipes played unison to make the desired sound. 

All donations given for the acquisition of these art displays will go directly
to the organ fund of the First Congregational Church of Chatham.
