Music Programs
"When in our music God is glorified, and adoration leaves no
room for pride, it is as though the whole creation cried Alleluia! Alleluia!"
- Fred Pratt Green
SEPTEMBER THROUGH JUNE
The Chancel Choir
This volunteer choir of approximately 25 voices includes
a professional soprano section leader/soloist and four balanced sections
of experienced choral singers. They lead the congregational singing at
each Sunday worship service as well as provide an introit, an anthem,
and a benediction response. A second anthem is offered each week by a
soloist or an instrumentalist. This choir is open to all adults and high
school students with music reading ability. New members are always encouraged
to attend rehearsals which are held Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00.
A sign-out sheet enables members to check out when travel plans and special
events prevent attendance on a Sunday morning. A wide variety of music
is presented to enrich worship -- from arrangements of hymns and sacred
folk music to major works by classical and contemporary composers.

The Carillon Handbell Choir
Ringers rehearse each Thursday afternoon from 3:00
to 4:30 p.m. Special music by the handbell choir celebrates national and
religious holidays. The choir provides music for worship approximately
once a month. Membership in the handbell choir is open to experienced
and novice ringers and instruction is offered to beginners.
The Children's Choir
The children sing during worship approximately once
each month and present a musical in June. Rehearsals are after the worship
service on Sundays.
The Second Sunday Singers
This is a group of adults who come forward from the
congregation to sing with the Chancel Choir on the second Sunday of each
month. Each month they offer a familiar hymn -- arranged especially for
this group. Second Sunday Singers rehearse for fifteen minutes before
church on the second Sunday of each month, having received in the mail
a copy of the familiar hymn to be sung.
ALL YEAR
Special Concerts
First Congregational Church of Chatham is often selected
by musicians and sponsoring groups as a venue for concerts. We enjoy performances
by many fine soloists and ensembles, such as the Cape and Islands Chamber
Music Festival each summer.
